What started as a rebellious trend: a stylish stand against the march of technology and the fast pace of the digital age has transformed into a deeper cultural change in the way print magazines are now created and read.

The vast range of independent magazines and zines on offer is now being hailed as a modern publishing phenomenon we picked out 5 of our favourites to help you out. 

Cereal 

Flicking through the travel and lifestyle magazine Cereal, one can easily start to daydream about what founders Rosa Park and Rich Stapleton’s workdays look like… presumably travelling, checking out new cafés, and generally surrounding themselves with beautiful things.  

Kinfolk

Kinfolk is famously about intentionality, about a kind of wholesome slow living that exults in deliberately curated moments, carefully selected objects, and, as its twee tagline once read, “small gatherings.” Like all lifestyle magazines, it traffics in aspiration, and if, in the past eight years or so, you have found yourself craving a precisely sliced piece of avocado toast, or a laundry line from which to cunningly hang your linen bedsheets in the sun-dappled afternoon, you probably have Kinfolk to thank for it. 

LOLA magazine

A Berlin beauty that reminds of us of our dancing days in Berghain. Lola is about music, art, film, sex life and human interest stories from Berlin.

SUITCASE reimagines travel magazines and its design always give us travel envy.  We love how they explore destinations like a local in a way that is also kind to the planet.
